Robert and Arlene Kogod Courtyard | 8th and F Streets N.W.
President John F. Kennedy’s administration is often associated with a golden age for art and culture in the United States. As part of the nationwide commemoration of Kennedy’s centennial this year, SAAM is presenting performances by The Washington Ballet and the hip-hop group Liner Notes.
The Washington Ballet:
4–5:15 p.m. – Dancers from The Washington Ballet perform excerpts from WHO WHEN WHY, a newly commissioned work by choreographer Mimmo Miccolis inspired by JFK’s famous quote “If not us, who? If not now, when?”
5:30–7 p.m. - Liner Notes will perform an electrifying multimedia show of live music, poetry, and visuals inspired by 1960s music and culture that speak to JFK's ideals of courage, freedom, justice, service, and gratitude.
American Visionary: John F. Kennedy’s Life and Times
This exhibition, on view at SAAM through September 17, brings together seventy-seven images that show the dramatic scope of Kennedy’s life. Selected from the Kennedy Library, Getty Images, private collections, and the Kennedy family archives, these images remain as indelible evidence of JFK’s personal charisma and political accomplishments. http://americanart.si.edu/exhibitions/archive/2017/jfk/
